Sharmazanov: There can be no border between Armenia and Karabakh
Armenia and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic are located in the same economic zone so there can be no border between them, the vice speaker of Armenian parliament, spokesman for the Republican Party of Armenia Edward Sharmazanov said during a briefing today.
According to him, at the Astana meeting the sides reached an agreement about Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) by late June 2014.
“There remain a number of technical issues related to imports and exports. There are no border-related issues because the Eurasian Economic Union is not an organization that would raise the problem of borders. Armenia is a member of the World Trade Organization and will become a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, while settlement of the Karabakh conflict is beyond their scope,” Sharmazanov said.
He stressed that the format of the OSCE Minsk Group was set up for the Karabakh conflict settlement and these organizations have nothing to do with clarification of border issues.
He called on everyone not to create a stir over the May 29 meeting in Astana as the negotiations on the Karabakh conflict resolution are a transparent process.
“Neither me, nor you or anyone else, let alone our statehood will benefit from this stir. I want to say once again that Armenia is the guarantor of the NKR’s security and it has not done and will not do anything that will endanger the security of the Artsakh people,” Sharmazanov said.
