Swiss president to meet president of Nagorno Karabakh

An official welcoming ceremony of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, President of the Swiss Confederation, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Didier Burkhalter who is on an official visit to Armenia took place in the Armenian president’s residence today. The ceremony was followed by negotiations of Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Didier Burkhalter.

“Today we will discuss with great pleasure and willingness our agenda of bilateral relations as well as various aspects of our cooperation within the OSCE framework. Of course, I am glad that today you will also met the president of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. It is a very good opportunity for you to meet with all the parties to the conflict and hear their opinions. Welcome to Armenia,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at the meeting with Didier Burkhalter.

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office expressed his gratitude for the cordial reception, stressing that he is glad to be in Armenia after visiting two other countries of the region. “As you said, Mr. President, a dialog is necessary with all the conflicting parties to solve the complex issues, and this is what Switzerland would like – to hold discussions and conduct a dialog with the aim of finding solutions to the problems of the conflicts,” Didier Burkhalter said.
