Armenian citizens stuck at Upper Lars checkpoint receive help

Thanks to efforts of the Armenian community of Rostov (Russia), food and medicine were delivered to Armenian citizens who got stuck at Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border, Armenian Foreign Ministry said citing the consulate general in Rostov-on-Don.

Help was also given to the Armenian citizens who had problems with documents.

“Although Georgian, Russian and Armenian authorities repeatedly called on people to refrain from using Upper Lars-Kazbegi section, several more cars arrived there in recent days and got stuck in a traffic jam. Several families were allowed to stay at the rural house of the head of the local Armenian community Vladimir Manasyan.

Two weeks ago the consulate general organized a flight to Yerevan for ‘Ani’ dance group. Elderly people, women and children were also offered a free flight to Armenia, but they rejected the offer. An advisor of the consulate general will visit the place on June 6,” Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
