Driver surrenders to police after 11-year-old dies in crash

5th grader, 11-year-old Ani Vokoyan was hit by a Volkswagen Golf driven by Roland K., 25, at 17th kilometer of Spitak-Gyumri motorway around 3:30 pm on June 6. The girl died on the spot, while a female passenger of the car was hospitalized with injuries, Armenian police said.

The driver surrendered to the Taron police unit at 4:00 pm on the same day. He told policemen that following the accident he left his car at the scene and fled, being afraid of the crowd that gathered there.

An investigation is underway.
