Levon Shirinyan: Nepotism has taken root in Armenian society

Nepotism has taken root in Armenian society, and its manifestations are gradually becoming a tradition, political scientist Levon Shirinyan said at a press conference today.

When commenting on the personnel policy and the recent appointments of ex-prime minister Tigran Sargsyan and ex-sports minister Yuri Vardanyan as ambassadors, Shirinyan considered these appointments incorrect.

“The cadres are re-manned by relatives, friends, and acquaintances. This tradition goes back to the Soviet time. They appoint their friends as diplomats, forgetting that these appointments are extremely important for Armenia. This unprofessional approach, which has formed as part the tradition, is incomprehensible and inadmissible,” the political scientist said.

In his time, it is time for the public to declare that such appointments are unacceptable to Armenia.

“Thanks to taxpayers, these people are appointed diplomats, but they lack experience and qualifications. If we want to build a country, we should put an end to this. Such appointments undermine Armenia’s image that has already been affected. If the policy goes on, the country’s national interests will suffer,” Shirinyan said.
