Monnier: Sargsyan-Aliyev summit may lead to stable peace
The meeting of Presidents Serzh Sargasyan and Ilham Aliyev in Paris may lead to a stable peace, French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Pascal Monnier was quoted as saying by Interfax-Azerbaijan news agency.
“Francois Hollande invited the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia to Paris. The meeting may prove useful as we are a Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and our role is to assist the parties in achieving a stable peace,” the ambassador said.
According to him, President Hollande visited Baku and Yerevan in May, ahead of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the ceasefire agreement in order to intensify the negotiating process.
“I know that the Co-chair states, including France, work hard on new ideas and the agenda of the upcoming talks,” the ambassador stressed, noting that France has submitted several proposals to both conflicting parties which are considering these proposals.
“We together with our American and Russian colleagues will do our best to settle the conflict,” P. Monnier said.
