E. Sharmazanov: Azerbaijan pursues destructive policy
Vice speaker of the Armenian parliament, head of Armenia-Latvia friendship group Edward Sharmazanov met today with Latvian Ambassador to Armenia Elita Gavele, according to the press service of the parliament.
Stressing the importance of Latvia’s upcoming presidency of the European Union, Edward Sharmazanov expressed hope that it will give renewed impetus to the political relations of Armenia and the EU as well as to cooperation between Armenia and Latvia. In his words, Armenia attaches value to the regularity of its dialog with the EU.
Sharmazanov spoke about the significance of a peaceful resolution to the Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, ruling out a military solution. He said Azerbaijan pursues a destructive and destabilizing policy. The ambassador said for her part that Latvia and European organizations are in favor of a peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
Discussing the issue of the Armenian Genocide’s international recognition, E. Sharmazanov said that the possibility of new genocides cannot be ruled out until the international community recognizes the Armenian Genocide and qualifies it as the gravest crime against humanity.
