Sergey Minasyan: Chuck Hagel’s statement not to produce results
The United States continues to call on Russia to fully withdraw its forces from Georgia's borders, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said during a press conference with his Georgian counterpart Irakli Alasania, Lenta.ru reported. Chuck Hagel arrived in Tbilisi for an official visit on September 7.
The United States continues to call on Russia to fully withdraw its forces from Georgia's borders, Hagel said, adding that the United States welcomes the restraint Georgia has shown in this situation.
“Russia's actions here and in Ukraine pose a long-term challenge that the United States and our allies take very seriously,” Hagel said in his speech, according to U.S. Department of Defense.
Commenting on this statement by Chuck Hagel, political scientist Sergey Minasyan told Panorama.am: “The U.S. defense secretary’s statement will not produce any results. Troops will not be withdrawn”.
In Minasyan’s words, political figures and diplomats sometimes make statements while understanding clearly that nothing will come of it.
