Edward Nalbandyan: Azerbaijan’s approach not serious

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan received yesterday the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs Igor Popov of Russia and Pierre Andrieu of France and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

The sides discussed the Nagorno Karabakh peace process and the preparations for the meeting of Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Paris in late October upon the invitation of French President.

The Armenian foreign minister drew the Co-chairs’ attention to the fact that ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan have become more frequent ahead of the summit, which is Baku’s usual line of conduct ahead of each high-level meeting.

The minister stressed that while pretending that it is prepared for the development of a peace agreement, Azerbaijan is trying to take discussions to other platforms on the one hand and on the other hand to frustrate the talks aimed at reconciling the fundamental principles of the conflict resolution. In the words of E. Nalbandyan, in reality Azerbaijan demonstrates with its destructive steps that it is unprepared for a conflict resolution.

According to Nalbandyan, for the same purpose Azerbaijan, trying to pass the desirable for reality, is spreading farfetched statements that the Co-chairs allegedly proposed starting expert negotiations over settlement elements acceptable to Baku. In his words, it shows that the Azerbaijani authorities’ approach ahead of the meeting in Paris is not serious.
