Drug price increases due to currency fluctuations
All medicines shall be stamp-labeled according to the changes that were made to the Law on Trade and Service and took effect on November 1, 2014, the press service of Armenian Health Ministry.
“Health Ministry was not opposed to this legislative amendment as Finance Ministry of Armenia conditioned it by the necessity to reduce the shadow sector and create a competitive field. Being a guarantor of providing the population with effective, safe and quality medicines, the government is interested in preventing counterfeit, unregistered drugs from entering the market.
The prices did not change after the amendment took effect on November 1. A noticeable change in drug prices was recorded after November 20, which was evidently due to fluctuations of the dollar and the euro. So those who try to present the increase in medicine prices as a result of the mandatory stamp-labeling requirement are not sincere, to put it mildly,” Health Ministry said in a statement.
