Governor: All preconditions exist to develop tourism in Lori province
The Armenian economy is considerably interconnected with the economy of Russia so I think that membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will allow us to make progress, the governor of Armenia’s Lori province Arthur Nalbandyan said at the final 2014 press conference in response to a question about the advantages of EEU membership.
When asked what the most urgent problems of the province are, he replied: ‘Problems are in all spheres, but today I am concerned over the social condition of residents. We should take steps to create new jobs. The prime minister gave clear instructions to encourage and assist all those businessmen who are prepared to make investment, create jobs. Armenia’s entry into EEU will allow us to enter new markets. I am sure that in 2015-2016 we will achieve economic development”.
Asked whether mining industry may hinder tourism development in Lori, A. Nalbandyan said: “In terms of the province’s economy, I consider it important to develop industry, agriculture, and tourism – as an alternative branch’.
Serious programs with the support of French region of Rhone-Alpes have been launched to develop tourism. Tumanian’s World tourist center was set up in Aleverdi. As regards your question, I should say that mining industry will not hinder tourism development. Moreover, we plan to offer tours to Akhtala and Alaverdi in order to familiarize tourists with the history of mining industry.
Quite the opposite, there are all the preconditions to develop tourism in Lori province. We will register progress in that sphere soon,” the governor said.
