Armenia has a number of issues in IT sector: IT expert
No matter how authoritative a conference is, it may not be effective if to view it as a separate event. The IT sector conferences must be continuation of a general process, IT security specialist Samvel Martirosyan told Aysor.am, referring to the conduction of World Congress of IT (WCIT) in Yerevan in autumn.
WCIT is the most authoritative conference of the sector aimed at discussing urgent issues and challenges of the sector, show the impact of legal, political and economic processes on the technology business model.
Samvel Martirosyan said that during the days of conference Armenia will appear under the limelight of international press but it should not be an end in itself and the conduction of the event must be part of a general flow.
“We must have our agenda. As far as a number of Armenian IT companies are entering international market it is already an interesting circumstance, but the WCIT may be used for wider representation of Armenia in international markets,” he said, adding that there are a number of issues in that regard.
“Armenia is not perceived in many places, it is not represented. The simplest example of it is that our country is not included in international payment systems, which creates a number of issues,” Martirosyan said.
The expert noted that there is always a danger for Armenia to become just a serving country while Armenia is quite leading country in IT sector.
“The IT percentage in the GDP is one of the biggest in the world. But only regarding the percentage. If to take real sums we have place to grow. Only small percent of population is invlolved in the IT sector. We lack specialists, we have legislative gaps. It appears that for us IT is a serious economic sector while from international point of view we have no IT sector. Let us also admit that in the domestic market too our own production is used rather little,” Martirosyan said.
