No country should dictate Armenia how to build its foreign policy: expert
Armenia is a sovereign state and decides its foreign policy on its own, expert Gohar Iskandaryan told Aysor.am, referring to the media publication as if some western states do not approve Armenia’s PM’s visit to Iran and tried to express their opinion through the EU ambassador to Armenia.
The expert said no one should advice the PM when to visit Iran.
“If the EU official has really expressed dissatisfaction, we must clearly register that this is the right of our country. We plan and organize the visits of our high-ranking officials on our own,” she said, adding that the visit of the Armenian PM to Iran set for February 27 is even a bit late.
“We should have organized the visit earlier, anyway, he will be there in few days,” she said, adding that his spouse is going to accompany him, which is a very important message.
She stressed that Armenia must build its foreign relations in accordance with its interests.
“No country has a right to dictate us how to act. We cannot isolate us from all the countries of the region. We should confront the western forces, saying that we are already in blockade from two sides. What will happen with Armenia if the relations with Iran worsen too? In such case the West should put pressures on both Azerbaijan and Turkey for them to carry out milder policy toward us,” she said, adding that otherwise Armenia’s only hope remains Georgia.
“If some issues raise with this country too, Armenia will appear in complete blockade. It is a serious violation of human rights: a whole nation is being blockaded in its own country,” she said, adding that this issue should be raised every time and everywhere.
