Unemployed residents of Alaverdi promised to be taken to work to Teghout but promise not kept
Former employees of Alaverdi copper-molybdenum plant closed today Yerevan-Tbilisi railway.
They claim that ACP company’s leadership has not prolonged the contracts with over 200 employees.
“From October 2018 they were paid by 2/3 with the hope that something will change, the copper-molybdenum plant with be re-operated or an alternative will be offered,” coordinator of the protest action, former employee of the plant Armen Kirakosyan told Aysor.am.
He said the population of Alaverdi lives in bad conditions and the salaries they were receiving were somehow solving the issue.
“There are some solutions offered by the former employees. The Prime Minister promised to transfer some unemployed from Alaverdi to Teghout,” he said.
“Teghout has been re-operated, people from different places started working but not those from Alaverdi. During the campaign it was stressed on the highest level. Besides, we had thrice held meetings in the government and discussed the issue. We were told that everything would be fine after Teghout’s exploitation,” Kirakosyan said.
Few employees conducted meetings with the governor of Lori region.
