Buquicchio: I regret constitutional amendments in Armenia are not in line with recommendations of the Venice Commission

The Constitutional Court of Armenia has issued a statement stating that President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio addressed a letter to President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan today.

“Today President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio sent a response letter to President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan.

The letter reads as follows:

“Dear President,

Thank you for your letter of 25 June 2020.

I have been following closely the developments in Armenia concerning the constitutional amendments. I regret that they are not in line with the clear recommendations of the Venice Commission.

I cannot but recall the need to respect the Constitution. This is a basic requirement of the principle of the rule of law.
