Azerbaijan will try to revenge to shameful defeat: expert on possibility of wide-scale war
Aysor.am spoke with the expert of Azerbaijani affairs Anzhela Elibegova about the recent developments on Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Asked about the conclusions the Azerbaijani leadership made if taking into consideration the obvious failures on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the calls of the international community, the expert said the first conclusion was that the international community is not interfering into the process.
“Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev understood that he diverts the attention of the international community focused on coronavirus from his provocations, frontline and is not getting corresponding worthy tough assessment,” she said.
She said the second is the unchanged efficiency of the Armenian army and the third - the disproportionately large losses both among the special squad and the expensive military equipment.
As to the possibility of Azerbaijani unleashing wide-scale war after the relative calm situation, including on the Karabakh-Azerbaijani Line of Contact, she said the possibility of wide-scale war now is not big, but added that provocations by the Azerbaijani side will definitely continue.
“And Azerbaijan will try to revenge for its shameful defeat, including in the direction of Artsakh and Nakhichevan. It is necessary to be ready for it,” she said.
Asked about the possibility of resuming peace talks on the background of increased tension on the border, the expert said, “In general it is difficult to judge about the negotiations at this moment following the replacement of the foreign minister in Azerbaijan and appointment of a person in this post who is not a diplomat and has no experience in the peace process. So, no progress should be expected in the proves in the upcoming months.”
