The country’s current leadership seeks to have compliant and controllable clergy who will serve its interests and refrain from opposing its policies, either collectively or individually, Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan said at a press briefing today.

“But it is impossible not to oppose such a policy. We cannot agree with the measures being implemented today, which carry significant dangers and risks. It is also impossible to accept the approaches of a political group that consistently promotes the abandonment of historical memory. The ‘Real Armenia’ concept is precisely about this: adapting to the expectations of our enemies so that they cease to be enemies. This is a short-sighted policy and a condemnable attempt to extend one’s own power. As long as I remain active in this sphere, and as long as Catholicos Karekin II holds office, such an approach will not succeed,” Archbishop Arshak emphasized.
