Entire negotiation process on Karabakh issue was about keeping Armenia and in some sense Azerbaijan in a trap: Pashinyan

The negotiation process on the Karabakh issue was never truly aimed at resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during the National Assembly’s question-and-answer session with the government.

According to the premier, the entire process was designed to keep Armenia and, to some extent, Azerbaijan in a trap.

“The task was to ensure that the Republic of Armenia would never have the opportunity to become an independent state. Read the published package: it shows how Armenia and the entire region were being held back. When I say that the Republic of Armenia has escaped the geopolitical trap, I am referring to the peace that has been established. The formulations sounded from a fiercely patriotic perspective we hear today are actually calls to push Armenia back into that trap,” he said.

Pashinyan reiterated that Armenia is a state, more than ever, Armenia is independent, more than ever.

“The Karabakh issue was resolved in 1996; they simply never told us. They wanted to put the blame on Armenia,” the Prime Minister added.
