This is nothing short than state terror against those who oppose the church-persecuting policy – Danielyan
Garnik Danielyan, a member of the National Assembly’s “Armenia” faction, made a post regarding the arrest of Archbishop Arshak and the government’s policy of persecuting the Church:
“As is known, the Catholicos of All Armenians is convening a bishops’ assembly at the Mother See on December 10-12.
Ahead of this event, the authorities resorted to pressure. The recent arrest of Archbishop Arshak by the National Security Service and the Investigative Committee is a vivid example of this.
This is a clear political order. After the publication of fabricated videos, the Archbishop stated that he was being pressured.
After a group of traitors met with the head of the regime, a statement followed in which the archbishops and bishops of the Armenian Church reaffirmed their loyalty to His Holiness.
This, too, triggered hysteria in the head of the regime. They do not hesitate to use security structures to carry out their insidious objectives and illegal orders.
Pashinyan himself admitted today that the demand not to mention the Catholicos’ name during the Liturgy is being conveyed through NSS employees. This is nothing short of state terror. The current dictatorial regime is using every method of intimidation against those who oppose its state-destroying and church-persecuting policies.
I express my support for Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan. I am confident that under the leadership of His Holiness, our Church will overcome this trial as well.”
