Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan arrested

Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan, of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, has been arrested. Judge Masis Melkonyan ruled that the Archbishop be held in custody for two months.

Yesterday, the National Security Service (NSS) took Archbishop Arshak into custody at the Investigative Committee building. The Investigative Committee confirmed the arrest and provided details of the proceedings.

“During the preliminary investigation, a public criminal prosecution was launched under Article 393, Part 2, Points 1 and 4 of the Criminal Code – illegal distribution of narcotic drugs by a group acting with prior agreement in a public place,” the Committee stated.
