Archbishop Mikayel has not yet been transferred for surgery due to technical issues, attorney says
The health condition of Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese and currently serving a two-year prison sentence, has recently deteriorated. His defense attorneys have stated that he requires surgical intervention.
Earlier, the Archbishop’s legal team announced that the Penal Medical Center had offered to arrange the necessary surgery.
Aysor.am asked Archbishop Mikayel’s attorney, Marine Farmanyan, when the operation would take place.
Farmanyan explained that certain technical issues remain unresolved, and once they are addressed, the Archbishop will be transferred from the penitentiary to the medical facility.
“On Monday, a hearing will take place at the Supreme Criminal Court, where our appeal against his sentence will be examined. After these matters are resolved, it will become clear when he will be transferred for surgery,” the lawyer said.
