Mandatory military service in Armenia reduced by six months: NA adopts bill in full

The mandatory military service term for ordinary personnel in Armenia will be reduced from 24 months to 18 months. The National Assembly adopted the draft law in its second reading and in full.

A total of 65 deputies voted in favor of the bill, four voted against it, and 20 abstained.

The new regulation will apply to citizens conscripted for compulsory military service after January 1, 2026.

According to the government’s draft decision on announcing the 2025 winter conscription, the actual process of replenishing the Armed Forces within the framework of the winter call-up will begin on January 7, 2026. As a result, citizens drafted starting from the 2025 winter conscription will serve an 18-month term.

The reduction in the length of service will not apply to citizens who are already performing compulsory military service as of January 1, 2026.
