Russian embassy granted permission to meet Karapetyan: Russian Foreign Ministry

The Russian side is raising the issue of the detention of businessman Samvel Karapetyan in its official contacts with Armenia. The Russian Embassy in Yerevan has been granted permission to meet with him, Mikhail Kalugin, Director of the Fourth Department for CIS Countries at the Russian Foreign Ministry, told RIA Novosti.

“We have reached a point where consular access has been provided through the Russian Embassy in Yerevan. The most recent visit by our diplomats took place in early December,” Kalugin said.

According to him, the Russian side is receiving all necessary information about Karapetyan’s condition, including through his lawyers and relatives.

“He reports that his health is satisfactory and demonstrates optimism and a fighting spirit,” Kalugin added.

“We continue to raise this issue in our contacts with the republic’s official representatives, emphasizing that Karapetyan has been held in detention for six months without a court ruling,” the diplomat concluded.
