Pashinyan asks Russian side to urgently restore railways to the Turkish border

There is a misunderstanding regarding the Meghri railway as it does not belong to Russia but is the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and Armenia has not delegated it to anyone, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told the reporters today. He also noted that there is currently no railway infrastructure there, making such discussions irrelevant.

Commenting on Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement that Russia is ready to join the implementation of the Trump Route project, Pashinyan emphasized that this initiative is a bilateral project between Armenia and the United States. He added that the involvement of a third country can only be discussed within a bilateral framework: “It is clearly formulated and I would not consider it correct to comment outside this framework.”

At the same time, the Prime Minister said he had formally requested Russian partners to ensure the rapid restoration of the Yeraskh-Nakhichevan and Akhuryan railway sections leading to the Turkish border. He added that in the near future he intends to raise the issue of restoring the Ijevan-Ghazakh section as well, underscoring the urgency of completing that work.

“I hope our Russian partners will make this request a reality as quickly as possible,” Pashinyan concluded.
