U.S. policy under Trump aims to export Central Asian resources to Europe while bypassing Russia and China – Suren Sargsyan

International affairs expert Suren Sargsyan writes:

“Ultimately, it is important to understand that U.S. policy has nothing to do with connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan via the ‘Trump Route,’ nor with granting Azerbaijan a corridor. It is not about Armenia or Azerbaijan at all, despite repeated attempts by Armenian authorities to present these issues through domestic PR narratives.

The core objective is the export of Central Asian resources to Europe while bypassing Russia and China.

Recall the statement made by O’Brien during a U.S. Senate hearing: ‘The countries of Central Asia are incredibly wealthy, and at present their only options for accessing global markets are through Russia or China. If we can open a route passing through Armenia and Azerbaijan, they will become far less dependent on Russia and China and gain broader access to world markets.’

Now, combine this statement with Trump’s current regional policy, look at Kazakhstan’s recent activity in relations with Armenia, and the Armenian government’s remarks on railway development, road links, oil and gas pipelines, as well as fiber-optic infrastructure, and the full picture will immediately come together.”
