For Aliyev, the ceasefire on the Armenian border is a direct result of Armenia’s unilateral concessions: Meloyan

Constitutional expert and member of the Our Way movement, Gohar Meloyan, wrote:

“In an interview given a few days ago, the President of Azerbaijan emphasized that there is no international law – only the law of force.

Any talk of peace with the leader of a country who denies the existence of international law, especially under the current balance of power between Armenia and Azerbaijan, is an illusion and, at best, self-deception.

It is obvious that for Aliyev, the ceasefire on the border with Armenia is a direct consequence of the Armenian side’s voluntary, unilateral policy of concessions. Armenia is reducing its military budget, while Azerbaijan continues to expand its military financing.

Azerbaijan is funding and promoting the so-called ‘Western Azerbaijan’ agenda at the state level, while the Armenian authorities, even in the cultural sphere, reject military and defensive approaches. It is evident that these authorities are, at best, deeply mistaken and fail to understand Azerbaijan’s real goals and intentions, or, at worst, are acting in coordination with them.

Is this government capable of effectively leading our country? A defeated political force cannot sit at the negotiating table on equal footing. In such circumstances, negotiations become an imitation, and the defeated side turns into a puppet, especially when the principle of mirror reciprocity is clearly absent.

Balance can only be restored through professional and strong leadership guided by Armenia’s national interests.”
