Vardevanyan: Officials knew of Samvel Karapetyan’s bilateral pneumonia and took no action

During his detention, Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the “Our Way” popular movement, was held in conditions that were deliberately created, said Aram Vardevanyan, a member of Karapetyan’s legal team, in comments to reporters.

“The health problems that emerged – pneumonia and coronavirus – have a direct cause-and-effect link to the inaction and actions of officials during his time in the penitentiary. There was a complete lack of medical care,” he stated.

According to Vardevanyan, the competent authorities were aware that Karapetyan had bilateral pneumonia yet chose not to act. “Be certain, all of this will be overcome, but ultimately responsibility will be inevitable,” he emphasized.

It should be noted that the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal overturned the decision of Anti-Corruption Court Judge Sargis Petrosyan, who had applied house arrest as a preventive measure against Samvel Karapetyan. Under the new ruling, Karapetyan has been placed under arrest for a period of two months.
