Bishops’ Conference to be held outside Armenia
Under the chairmanship of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, a meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council was held at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on January 13, during which it was decided that the postponed Bishops’ Conference would be organized in February.
According to exclusive information from Aysor.am, the Bishops’ gathering will not take place at the Mother See but outside Armenia. Sources indicate that this decision was made in light of the authorities’ anti-church campaign and its consequences.
Aysor.am will later inform the public of the location where the Bishops’ Conference will be held.
It should be recalled that, under the direction of His Holiness Karekin II, following discussions held at the meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council on November 4-7, a Bishops’ Conference was convened on December 10-12 to examine recent developments surrounding the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church and issues related to intra-church life.
On December 7, however, it became known that the convening of the Bishops’ Conference had been temporarily postponed.
“Considering the current situation in Armenia, in particular the repressions against clergy, including arrests, and in response to the request of the bishops, the convening of the Bishops’ Conference under the direction of the Catholicos of All Armenians is temporarily postponed,” the Mother See announced.
