January 27 declared Day of Remembrance for those who died defending the Homeland; it will be a non-working day

The National Assembly has adopted a resolution declaring January 27 as the Day of Remembrance for those who lost their lives defending the homeland. The day will be observed as a non-working day.

The initiative was proposed by Civil Contract Party MP Ruben Rubinyan and Gegham Nazaryan, who left the “Armenia” faction.

Rubinyan emphasized that the day will honor the memory of all who sacrificed their lives during military operations over the years. “There has not been a national day of remembrance in the past 25 years,” he noted.

“Considering the events of recent years – in 2020 and beyond – we experienced casualties. Even before that, there were various military incidents, including the April War and border conflicts, during which servicemen lost their lives. It is important to establish a day to honor their memory,” Rubinyan added.

Regarding the choice of January 27, Rubinyan explained that the date was selected so as not to coincide with any specific military event. “We chose January 27 because it precedes Army Day on January 28, a day when officials traditionally visit Yerablur,” he said.
