It’s a matter of taste: Ararat Mirzoyan on Hakan Fidan’s statement

The EU High Representative has expressed support for democratic processes and elections in Armenia – a position that, in my view, is not problematic and deserves appreciation. Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan made this remark during the National Assembly’s government Q&A session, referring to recent statements by EU officials.

Mirzoyan stressed that these statements were subsequently manipulated by well-known circles, adding that manipulations have become part of our daily political and social life.

According to the minister’s prediction, there will be a lot of manipulation in the next 5-6 months.

Regarding the statement of the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mirzoyan noted that his counterpart’s statement expressed support for the peace process in the South Caucasus and for Nikol Pashinyan’s role in normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“It turns out this is Turkey’s position on these processes – an encouragement or a call addressed to Armenia and Azerbaijan. Is there anything bad in this? No. Even with a strong desire, it is difficult to interpret this as interference in Armenia’s internal affairs. It is a matter of taste, taking into account the foreign-policy tastes of some of our opposition circles,” Mirzoyan said.

Speaking on Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the Foreign Minister noted that two separate settlement processes are underway within the political agenda, and that tangible progress has been recorded in both. “We state that these processes are not conditioned by one another, but any objective observer will hardly fail to see the connection,” he added.
