Suren Sargsyan: Unclear why Trump did not have a tête-à-tête meeting with Armenian PM in Davos

International scholar Suren Sargsyan wrote:

“Of course, sitting with Trump and taking photos – arranged by protocol in alphabetical order with the host in the middle – is useful for domestic PR, as it conceals the fact that no bilateral meeting with Trump took place in Davos.

It remains unclear to me why Trump did not hold a tête-à-tête with the Armenian Prime Minister, while he did meet privately with the President of Azerbaijan. Traditionally, the United States seeks to maintain diplomatic parity.

Moreover, Trump and Aliyev discussed the TRIPP initiative. Notably, Trump held only two bilateral meetings in Davos – with Aliyev and Zelenskyy (aside from his meeting with the NATO Secretary General).”
