Immediate surgery prescribed for Narek, yet he remains in Armavir prison – lawyer

Late last night, I met with political prisoner Narek Samsonyan, who has been on a hunger strike for 15 days and has been unlawfully detained for 71 days, wrote Narek’s lawyer Astghik Matevosyan.

“Narek is severely exhausted and has lost significant weight. During our meeting, his condition periodically worsened. The transfer to and from the hospital had a negative impact on his health, and on the return trip his condition sharply deteriorated in the vehicle.

Yesterday, I left Narek while he was unwell. We do not know how he spent the night, nor in what condition we will find him today.

Narek Samsonyan continues his struggle with his last reserves of strength, despite serious health complications. The doctor has issued a referral for immediate hospitalization and urgent surgery. However, Narek remains in solitary confinement, cell No. 6, at the Armavir penitentiary.

The decision to end Narek’s hunger strike can only be made based on medical advice, following rehabilitation treatment, examinations, and emergency surgery at a medical facility of Narek’s choosing.

I am now on my way to the Armavir penitentiary to address these issues and to assess Narek’s condition. I will provide further updates.”
