Growing military imbalance gives Baku extensive toolkit to pressure Armenia: Abrahamyan

“Can anyone explain why Azerbaijan’s 2026 military budget has increased by approximately 44 percent compared to the previous year?
Notably, this development – with all its associated risks – is reflected in the official report of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Republic of Armenia.
At the same time, Armenia’s government has reduced its military budget by roughly 15–16 percent. I am not even referring to the reduction of mandatory military service and several other steps that are clearly inadequate given the current security environment.
I am not claiming that war is inevitable this year or next. However, I do emphasize that the already disrupted military balance between Armenia and Azerbaijan continues to deepen, providing Baku with an extensive toolkit for both direct and indirect pressure on Armenia.”
