Armenian authorities issued no statement on events in Baku – Metakse Hakobyan

The outcome of the trial in Baku was not unexpected, Artsakh parliament member Metakse Hakobyan said in a conversation with Aysor.am, noting that while such a development was anticipated, society was not prepared for it.

“We expected such an outcome, especially considering the current authorities in Armenia. Since yesterday, I have been following both the official Azerbaijani and Armenian media. The authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan exist in completely different realities.

The Armenian authorities are acting as though nothing significant has occurred, or as if they bear no responsibility for the events unfolding. In contrast, the Azerbaijani side portrayed the developments in the Baku court as the alleged establishment of justice through the force of law.

Naturally, it was presented to the international community as if the military and political leadership of Artsakh, and all of us, were not seeking peace or coexistence, but were instead engaged in criminal activity,” she said.

Hakobyan stressed that while the lack of reaction from the Armenian authorities did not surprise her, it provoked anger.

“There was no response from the Armenian authorities – not even a statement. Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani side continues to build further plans based on what happened,” she added.

According to Hakobyan, Azerbaijan has long-term objectives that extend beyond the current situation. She argued that these goals include pressure on Armenia itself, the weakening of its security system, and the erosion of statehood.

“Azerbaijan’s goals go very far – toward Armenia. From their perspective, these processes can take place only under the current authorities. They understand well that under different leadership, their plans would not succeed. The most dangerous factor is the elections expected in Armenia in the near future. Azerbaijan and Turkey have already expressed support, because their main objective is a constitutional change. After that, from their point of view, it would no longer matter who is in power in Armenia,” she said.
