Archbishop Mikael appeals to the European Court of Human Rights

Archbishop Mikael, through his legal representatives, has filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), alleging violations of his rights guaranteed under the European Convention on Human Rights.

According to the complaint, the application outlines facts and legal arguments concerning the alleged unlawful deprivation of liberty (Article 5), violation of freedom of expression (Article 10), as well as the use of detention and criminal prosecution for political purposes (Article 18).

Meanwhile, a court hearing at the Criminal Court of Appeal will continue today, February 6, 2026, at 15:00, with a 30-minute delay. The panel of judges includes E. Manasyan, N. Hovakimyan, and V. Margaryan. The hearing is taking place at the court building located at 23 G. Nzhdeh Street in Yerevan.

The Court of Appeal’s decision regarding the motion to change the preventive measure will be announced following the hearing.
