“We want the EUMA to continue to remain in Armenia; forms of further cooperation are being discussed” – Grigoryan

“We want the EU civilian mission (EUMA) to continue its presence in Armenia,” said Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, speaking to reporters.

According to him, further forms of cooperation are under discussion, and both sides are exploring the types of activities in which they can collaborate.

“You know that we have agreements within the framework of the peace process. These still need to be signed and ratified to enter into force. We are working to understand how to move forward in that regard. But it is clear that we want the mission to remain in Armenia, and we will continue to advance in this direction,” he said.

The Secretary of the Security Council noted that they highly appreciate the cooperation with the EU, and they also positively assess the deployment of the mission in Armenia.

Grigoryan emphasized that the mission has contributed positively to stability in the region and has helped build confidence in security among the populations of border communities.

“I can say that the mission had a positive impact. At the same time, Armenia-Azerbaijan bilateral relations played an important role in establishing peace, as did the involvement of President Trump. Peace and stability were the result of multiple factors, each contributing in its own way, and overall, all had a positive effect,” he noted.
