Archbishop Abraham relieved of duties as Primate of the Diocese of Vayots Dzor

By the Patriarchal Decree of His Holiness Karekin II, dated March 16, 2026, the Primate of the Diocese of Vayots Dzor, His Eminence Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan, was relieved of the position of the Primate of the Diocese and was called to rest, based on his written and oral applications.

By the Patriarchal Decree, His Eminence Archbishop Makar Hakobyan, Primate of the Diocese of Syunik, was concurrently appointed Vicar of the Diocese of Vayots Dzor to carry out the duties of the Primate of the Diocese.

Archbishop Abraham had joined the “reform” movement of Nikol Pashinyan, who had declared a campaign against the church.
