Motion to lift preventive measure against His Holiness the Patriarch submitted to Investigative Committee

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has received a motion from the defense attorney requesting the lifting of the preventive measure imposed on the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II.

“We have received the motion from the defense attorney to lift the preventive measure imposed on Karekin II Nersisyan. It will be examined within the time limit established by law,” the spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, Kima Avdalyan, told Aysor.am.

Yesterday, the Metropolitan of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo and Kari, Nikoloz Pachuashvili, stated that the Catholicos of All Armenians wishes to travel to Georgia, but obstacles are being created.

“The Catholicos is not allowed to leave the country. We have sent a special invitation, and if he is permitted, he will come,” he noted.

His Holiness currently has the status of a defendant. The Patriarch of All Armenians is accused of obstructing the execution of a court decision requiring Arman Saroyan to be reinstated as Primate of the Masyatsotn Diocese.

The preventive measure imposed on His Holiness is a ban on leaving the country.
