“Opposition has suddenly become obsessed with guarantees”– Ararat Mirzoyan

In recent days, Armenia’s opposition groups have become obsessed with guarantees, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated from the National Assembly chair.

“Let’s recall that just a few weeks ago and for nearly four years they rejected the very idea of peace. Now they are promoting narratives, including about bringing back Karabakh, which directly contradict the logic of peace. And now they have come up with something new – guaranteed peace,” Mirzoyan said.

He stressed that it is important to recognize that the guarantors in international relations always act in pursuit of their own interests.

“In international relations, no one acts out of goodwill alone, offers guarantees without self-interest, or sacrifices their soldiers for others. We know dozens of cases where guaranteed peace agreements were later violated including by the very guarantors,” he noted.

According to the Foreign Minister, the sustainability of peace lies not in external guarantees, but in mutual interest and balanced benefit.
