Lawyers allowed to enter the Anti-Corruption Committee following intervention by the Human Rights Defender

On April 16, the staff of the Human Rights Defender received alerts from lawyers stating that their clients had been detained and transferred to the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, but they were not being allowed to meet with them or provide proper legal assistance, the Human Rights Defender’s Office reported.

“As a result of measures undertaken by the Human Rights Defender’s institution and discussions with the investigative body, the lawyers who applied to the Defender’s Office were granted access to the Anti-Corruption Committee building and were able to exercise their right to provide legal assistance.

The Human Rights Defender continues to monitor the situation and once again emphasizes the fundamental nature of the right to legal assistance and the importance of its full and proper guarantee in ensuring the rights of every person deprived of liberty,” the statement said.
