A historic and political revolution is expected following the upcoming elections, says Nikol Pashinyan

The Civil Contract Party is the only political force that openly advocates abandoning the rhetoric of the Declaration of Independence, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated while presenting the party’s pre-election program. 

He stressed the need to center the state’s development around the ideology of “Real Armenia.”

“Our ideology is that we must focus on the internationally recognized sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, and on ensuring the security and well-being of its citizens,” Pashinyan said. 

According to him, the outcome of the upcoming elections could mark a historical and political turning point for the country.

“If the ‘Real Armenia’ ideology had not been accepted by the people, I would not be Prime Minister today. In 2024, I stated that, as Prime Minister, I had decided that we would not continue the Karabakh movement. If the people disagreed, I called on them to take to the streets, carry out a revolution, and remove me from office. The citizens of Armenia will have that opportunity in the upcoming elections. At the same time, they will also have the opportunity to bring about a historic and political transformation, by prioritizing the interests of our sovereign state and acting solely in service of those interests: the security, well-being, and peace of Armenia’s citizens. This is a historic choice, because for the first time in recent centuries, we have the chance not to delegate our interests to others, who may use them for their own purposes at our expense, but to confront our challenges directly and reach agreements within our own region,” Pashinyan said.

He added that ending the Karabakh movement also entails putting an end to the “Western Azerbaijan” narrative.

“This is a historic opportunity for all – not only for Armenia, but for the entire region,” Nikol Pashinyan concluded.
