Turkey could undercut Armenian farmers with cheap imports; the state needs a sound economic policy – Karapetyan

The state must pursue a coherent economic policy to prevent scenarios in which, for example, agricultural products enter Armenia via Turkey and undermine local farmers, said Narek Karapetyan, a member of the board of the “Strong Armenia” party, during a press conference today.

“Turkey subsidizes up to 50 percent of gas and electricity costs for its citizens. This gives it the ability to undercut our farmers with cheaper goods and push them toward poverty. There are ways to counter this: protect domestic producers, implement a sound economic policy, and say ‘yes’ only where it serves our national interests,” Karapetyan said
