Armenia is currently a country lacking the rule of law: political opponents are imprisoned and the church is under pressure, Robert Amsterdam, a member of Samvel Karapetyan’s international legal team, said at a meeting with journalists.

“Pashinyan’s political platform is aimed at undermining the Armenian Apostolic Church, which contradicts international and European law. This is also inconsistent with the agreement between Armenia and the EU,” Amsterdam said.

Referring to the 8th summit of the European Political Community held in Yerevan, the lawyer noted that he had never seen such a meeting conducted in this manner, with no clear commitments to invest in Armenia.

“No significant promises were made to Armenians. Instead, the interests of countries other than Armenia were highlighted,” Amsterdam said.

He also stated that Pashinyan did not once mention the political prisoners held in Baku or the issue of part of Armenia’s territory being occupied during the summit:

“Instead, he exchanged compliments with the Azerbaijanis,” Amsterdam added.
