“Until the moment when there is a need to make a choice, either de jure or de facto, we will not place such an issue on the agenda,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a briefing with journalists, referring to the statement made by the Russian president.

“I do not agree with the formulation of a ‘divorce,’ because I also had the opportunity to say in the National Assembly that we sometimes confuse interstate relations with marriage. Armenia is guided by interstate logic in interstate relations. We are a full member of the EAEU, like the others, and as long as we remain a member, we fully participate in all decisions,” Pashinyan said, emphasizing that as long as there is no need to leave the EAEU, the authorities are not going to put the issue to a referendum.

According to Pashinyan, there is no need for such a step, and Armenia treats its EAEU partners with respect.

The Armenian prime minister also stressed that the country has no intention of harming Russia’s interests.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that official Yerevan should decide as soon as possible whether it wants to join the EU or remain a member of the EAEU, adding that in such a case a “civilized divorce” could be possible.
