At some point, Armenia will have to make a choice between the EAEU and the EU – Overchuk

At some point, Armenia will have to make a choice between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union, and Russia will approach Yerevan’s decision with understanding, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said, according to RIA Novosti.

“Of course, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated, we will understand any choice made by the Armenian people. They speak about their desire to move closer to the European Union. We have repeatedly said that membership in the EAEU and the EU is incompatible. Armenia understands this very well, and at some point they will have to make such a choice if they decide to move in that direction,” he said during a forum in Kazan.

“Armenia is a very close country for us, an ally. It is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The human ties that unite us are very deep, very serious, and long-lasting. We have great respect for the people of Armenia,” Overchuk emphasized.
