Immediately catching a spy is not competent – Pashinyan says espionage case is still ongoing

The operational part of the case was carried out by the body subordinate to the Prime Minister – the National Security Service. Of course, I may be aware of all the details, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a conversation with reporters, referring to the accusations directed at PAP parliamentary candidate Andranik Tevanyan.

A journalist asked Pashinyan whether law enforcement agencies had received political instructions, noting that he had spoken about the issue during the campaign and that the Investigative Committee later released relevant information.

“When an espionage case is uncovered, it involves a certain operational investigation process. We currently still have an espionage case underway, but we are not making arrests for one simple reason: operational monitoring is being carried out so that the networks can be exposed and the methods of operation can be identified. Moreover, the instructions received by the spy provide us with information about the intelligence activities being conducted against us. A decision to arrest is made when the operational interest has been exhausted.
It is not competent to catch a spy immediately. We should allow the person to continue operating so we can identify their connections,” he stated.
