Volodin: “Pashinyan is not concerned about the fate of the Armenian people or Armenia’s statehood”

Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, has claimed that the Armenian authorities are not informing citizens about the potential consequences of leaving the Eurasian Economic Union.

According to Volodin, if Armenia withdraws from the EAEU, “gas prices for residents could increase almost fourfold, remittances from Russia could decline sharply, labor migration privileges could be abolished, and supplies of Armenian products – including fruits, vegetables, alcoholic beverages, and mineral water – could be suspended.”

“The same thing happened in Ukraine. When the decision was made on integration with the EU, people were told one thing. In practice, Ukrainian agricultural products never fully gained access to European markets,” he said.

According to the Speaker of the State Duma, Armenia could face a similar situation.
“It is likely that Pashinyan has made a personal commitment to bring Armenia into the European Union and is now carrying it out. At the same time, he is attempting to shift all associated costs onto the EAEU and Russia,” Volodin stated.

“It is obvious that he is not concerned about the fate of the Armenian people or the statehood of Armenia. He believes that this course will help preserve his personal power. The price will be high...” Volodin said.
