We are fighting against elements of criminal subculture – Chief of General Staff on suicides in the army

Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia Edward Asryan stated that the number of suicides in the army has decreased.

“Preventive work is definitely being carried out in the army: individual conversations with each soldier, studying their problems, raising issues with commanders. We are also developing the institute of psychologists within the Armed Forces, but unfortunately such cases still occur,” he said.

He stressed that the death of every serviceman is tragic, regardless of rank or status, whether officer, non-commissioned officer, contract, conscript, or private.

“A large collective effort is underway, as well as attempts from society, to infiltrate elements of criminal subculture into the army. We are carrying out very serious work in this direction. This year has been declared a year of struggle against elements of criminal subculture by the Minister of Defense. Unfortunately, there are servicemen who carry and attempt to spread these street attitudes within the army,” Asryan added.
