Pashinyan discusses Civil Contract party’s membership in the EPP

According to Euractiv, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is in talks regarding the possible accession of the Civil Contract Party to the European People’s Party (EPP).

Although no final decision has been reached, Pashinyan has reportedly expressed interest in the initiative. The European political family could consider and approve the party’s membership by the end of the year.

The move follows Pashinyan’s victory in Sunday’s elections, which came amid allegations of Russian interference.

Despite a clear shift away from Russian influence, Armenian authorities are cautious about framing the country’s foreign policy orientation as a hard choice between Brussels and Moscow. At the same time, observers are awaiting a formal application for European Union membership.
