The challenges are present and are materializing, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in the National Assembly.

“Today we must create guarantees that the forces distributing electoral bribes will not have any chance to exert political influence in Armenia,” he said.

Pashinyan noted that the current opposition in the National Assembly was formed as a result of illegal activities, and said it is Armenia’s legitimate right to prevent these circles from further political participation.

“The processes of uprooting the criminal-oligarchic system established in Armenia were obviously accompanied and should have been accompanied, including by external influences, which could also pose certain threats to Armenia’s security. There were situations when we reached a point where we understood that the further continuation of that influence could lead to counter-effects that might even have ontological consequences for Armenia, in the form of heightened security threats,” Pashinyan stated.

He added that, according to the authorities, those risks have now been overcome and no longer exist.
